Located at a distance of
five kilometers east of downtown
Kathmandu, near Pashupatinath
and Trivubhan international
airport of Bodhnath Stupa
is one of the largest stupas
in South Asia. Bodhnath Stupa
is one of the largest Tibetan
Buddhist monuments outside
of Tibet and is considered
the focal point of Tibetan
Buddhism in Nepal. Bodhnath
Stupa, which is supposed to
be built in the fifth century,
is known as Chorten Chempa
or 'Great Stupa 'to Tibetans
Around Bodhnath Stupa there
is a huge village which is
mainly inhabited by Tibetan
Buddhists. A wonderful festival
takes place each year between
February and March that Tibetans
celebrate their New Year and
it is the biggest Tibetan
New Year festival in the country.
Beyond that, Buddha Jayanti
is also a very important festival
held at Bodhnath Stupa. A
large number of people gather
in front of Bodhnath Stupa
on the full moon night of
April or May which, as is
the birthday of Buddha.
The structure of Bodhnath
Stupa is very interesting.
The basis of Bodhnath Stupa
resembles a bowl rejected.
It symbolizes the earth. On
its summit is an act that
symbolizes water. At its peak
there is a huge tower symbolizing
the fire and most of the tour
is a huge umbrella that symbolizes
the air. And on top of the
structure, it is a symbol
of the peak. There are 13
stages on the tour, which
represent 13 steps to achieve
'nirvana '. However, the greatest
attraction of Bodhnath Stupa
is the pair of watchful eyes
of Lord Buddha. You also get
to see the third eye and nose
is actually the number Nepali
a "which symbolizes the
unity of life.
